The “normal" range is often determined by using data from the general population and taking out the top 2.5% and bottom 2.5% of the population's results. The middle 95% is considered “normal,” making this a very wide range. “Normal” does not mean optimal.

What is the difference between synthetic and bioidentical hormones?

Synthetics are hormones that have been manufactured with a different structure from your own hormones to mimic the actions of your own hormones. Synthetic hormones tend to have an increased risk of side effects. Bioidentical hormones are made with the same molecular structure as your own hormones which allows them to act identical to how your biological hormones do. Bioidentical hormones have a reduced risk of side effects.

Who can benefit from bioidentical hormone replacement therapy?

Women 40+ who are not pregnant or wanting to become pregnant. You do not have to be post-menopausal to benefit from BHRT! If you are younger, still wanting to have children, or are not ready to start hormone replacement therapy there are still options to help you such as nutrition, supplements, lifestyle, and peptides to improve your overall health!

How is BHRT administered?

There are patches and creams for estrogen replacement and oral capsules for progesterone replacement. Topical testosterone cream can be prescribed for women. For men, testosterone cypionate intramuscular injections can be prescribed for men.

What are the benefits of BHRT?

Most women report symptom relief within 2-4 weeks including improvements in libido, mental clarity and focus, anxiety/depression, fat loss, vaginal dryness, sleep, muscle gain, thinning skin, dry skin, hot flashes, and mood swings. BHRT can also decrease your risk of cardiovascular disease including heart attack and stroke, help lower your cholesterol, and decrease your risk for osteoporosis! For men, testosterone can help with bone density, increase muscle strength and decrease fat distribution, increase sex drive, increase motivation, and decrease depression.

Does HRT cause breast cancer?

According to a study published in The British journal of general practice, micronised progesterone and transdermal estrogen did NOT confirm any additional risk of breast cancer. However, there are studies that contradict this. You must look at the benefits of quality of life with reduced symptoms and reduced bone loss vs the risk of breast cancer for yourself along with any other risk factors you present.

Does HRT cause blood clots?

According to a study published in The British journal of general practice, Bioidentical estrogen cream and patches are not associated with an increased risk of blood clots unlike estrogen taken orally.

What if my hormone levels in my blood work labs are normal?

Your age, medical history, symptoms, lifestyle, and goals are more important than your lab values in determining if your hormone levels are optimal for you.
